Scripture Group

Background:

The Parish Scripture group has its origins in a group that met in 1992 during Lent to reflect on the Lenten Gospels using Dympna Magees' book 'Challenge to Change'.  We met again the next Lent and decided to carry on meeting after Easter.  We have met most Thursdays during term time since.

The purpose of our meetings is to deepen our personal relationship with God by learning more about and reflecting together on the Readings for the following Sunday.

Our Thursday meetings are a time when we stop our busy lives and listen with our hearts to God present in the Scriptures and each other.

We all consider this an important part of our week and preparation for our Sunday Eucharist.

We pray at each meeting and support all Parish activities with our prayers. In Lent and Advent we organize a Day of Reflection for women usually at Wistaston Hall.

The Aims of the Group are:

  • To prepare to celebrate our Sunday Eucharist by reflecting on the Liturgy of The Word.
  • To grow in our knowledge of Scripture so that we are confident in using it to deepen our personal relationship with God.
  • To prayer together at each meeting and for each other's intentions during the week.
  • We respect the confidentiality of the group by trusting each other not to reveal anything shared at our meetings.
